Pig Racing for The CATS Foundation
We had a fantastic evening at The Fox, in Middle Barton, Oxford along with the help of some furry little friends. The support from local businesses and residents was truly amazing; they turned this evening into a huge success.
The evening started with a delicious home cooked chicken curry donated by Tony & Jacqui at The Fox. Once all “fed and watered” the customers not the piggies! We were able to start the main event of the evening.
Farmer Peter owner of the famous “Somerset Pigs” begins introducing the piggies, much to the amusement of the crowd who have now realised, these are not real pigs but fluffy battery operated ones! Farmer Peter auctions off all 8 piggies at the beginning of each race where the highest bidder will be the “owner” of chosen pig, and will be able to win more money if their pig comes in first! Customers could also pay to be a “Jockey” and “Trainer” in the hope of winning more money. Once the bets have been made the tote is closed the racing begins. With a lot of cheering and laughing from the crowd when they find these furry little piggies also stop along the race track to wiggle their noses and tails before making it to the finish line. There were a lot of winners throughout the evening and the atmosphere was brilliant.
Half way through the races we held a raffle and auction the prizes included: – “Record your own song,” “Track Day in a Caterham,” miniature F1 racing helmet, 12 piece dinner set, haircut in a high quality salon, digital photo frames, wine which were all kindly donated by local people.
Everybody commented on the fun they had during this evening and we are really pleased that we managed to raise a fantastic £850 for CATS Foundation.
On a personal note, as a long time friend of James, Deborah and Isabella Alford, it is their amazing positive attitude during the most difficult time in their lives that has led me to organise a charity evening. I am so pleased that the evening was a huge success and I was able to raise the awareness of this terrible disease. I would like to wish Daniel and Patricia continued success with CATS Foundation and hope a cure can be found soon.
