Brentwood Half Marathon 2012 – Event Summary
Stephan Walsh, Mark Jackson and I (Matt Lewi) completed the Brentwood Half Marathon on the 25th March for THE CATS FOUNDATION!
Thank you to all of you who have donated to our race! There is still time to make a donation so if you are feeling generous then please access our JustGiving page here or by clicking the JustGiving button at the bottom of the page.
The race was held on a beautiful spring day and the three of us were looking forward to the race. This was Steph’s debut at any sort of distance running and he was quickly regretting his pre-race meal of a Chinese takeaway the night before. Personally, popping over to my parents and having a BBQ cooked by my dad (rather than my mum’s legendary spag bol which has been fueling my brother in his 13 marathons in 13 months challenge) probably wasn’t the smartest idea but I quickly put those thoughts to the back of my mind at the start line.
The race started off well and the three of us fell into a nice quick pace. Although I was dubious we could keep it up we were all on for our sub-2 hour target time. Jacko (Mark) was leading us along and near the end Steph decided to up the pace and left us trailing in his wake. Our finishing times are below and we all came in within a couple of minutes of each other.
- Steph Walsh – 1hr 51m 05
- Mark Jackson – 1hr 51m 37s
- Matt Lewi – 1hr 52m 50
The race was a great part of Steph and my training for the Essex & Halstead Marathon we are running with my brother and Dan How. We are now trying to persuade Jacko to join the four of us for that race!
