13 in 13 Blog – Week 19 – 20
Since the London Ultra Marathon a lot has gone on with Amelie being in hospital and myself being injured. Thankfully things are now slowly going to back to normal as Amelie is at home and back at nursery and I can run again!
Due to this we’ve had a quiet couple of weeks, which has meant we’ve been able to catch up with our training plans and get some much needed admin out of the way.
Week 19 – 20 of the challenge
Next up is the Saracens Marathon and after a tour round Wembley, which included a ‘walk through’ of our final 400m both of us are pretty excited about this one. It’ll be the first race we’ve run where we’ll be the only two stepping up to the start line – but should provide great publicity for the charity and hopefully some funds too via our JustTextGiving number (CATS59 £5 to 70070), which will be detailed within the programme as well as plastered on the big screen.
With more than 70,000 expected at Wembley it’s pretty important for us to turn up on time and not looking like we’re about to collapse whilst running round the pitch to the finish line – possibly a hard task, given how the larger of two Dan’s looks when he finishes these things!
Training has been going well, with both of us able to get some long runs in. With two weeks to go now, it’s really all about conditioning and making sure we’re both in the best possible condition for the start of the race. This has meant a couple of trips to the physio and some much needed ‘food intake control’ although a trip to Paris for the England France game didn’t help the larger of the two Dan’s with the second issue!
That being said, we both should line up on 31st March in the best shape we’ve been in since starting the challenge, which, with a marathon two weeks later is ideal preparation.
Having family and friends supporting our efforts really gives us a boost and it’s great to have over 60 coming to watch the Saracens Marathon – I’m sure it’s got nothing to do with watching a top of the table clash (whilst drinking) and everything to do with supporting our cause!
Anyone else who wants to come along, tickets are cheap and it’ll be great to see you there. You can also catch us on the official Saracens@Wembley website here!
