13 in 13 Blog – Week 13

In the groove

In the groove

This week we have both eased off the training a bit so we are all set for the Gloucester marathon. With a tight cut off it potentially could be a tough marathon!

Our injuries have cleared up and we are chomping at the bit to get started – although we will probably be regretting this challenge on Monday like we normally do!

Week 13 of the challenge

After two fairly heavy weeks of training the weight has thankfully began falling off, although it seems to get harder to drop as each year goes by! We’ve both been getting some good training runs done and the trying to limit the diet by cutting out alcohol (me), chocolate and sweets (both of us)! I’m sure there will be a sweet binge after we’ve finished the Gloucester marathon to make up for lost time!

The week in the lead up to the Gloucester marathon has been quiet with both of us giving our bodies the maximum amount of time to recover and rejuvenate before the big push. We both managed a good run at the weekend, which gave some confidence that we’d be able to finish Gloucester in under the 5 hour cut off time (injuries permitting!!). I’ve managed to fit in a couple of physio sessions working particularly on my right thigh which has made good progress since giving up at the Deal marathon – although we did both finish it!

Now it’s just a case of waiting and to be honest I think we’re both pretty excited about getting to the start line. Six weeks off is a long break and it’ll be good to get back into the swing of things and also to find out exactly where we are in terms of fitness and how much more training is going to be needed to complete the challenge.

Whatever happens, it’s not going to be a dull ten months ahead, although no doubt there will be a fair amount of pain coming up!

This will be the fourth marathon that we’ve run together, and we’re looking forward to getting some company on the next few runs – so if you’ve said you’re going to run one, it’s probably time to sign up and start training!
